Many of the human reports are small, single-center, and published in Russian-language journals, which limits independent scrutiny. Outcome measures vary between studies and often rely on clinician-rated scales rather than objective biomarkers. Systematic reviews have noted the methodological weaknesses and called for larger, preregistered trials before firm conclusions can be drawn.
Claims about enhanced focus, memory, or mood in healthy people rest mostly on anecdotal reports and community discussion rather than on controlled data. It remains unclear whether any cognitive benefit observed in patients recovering from brain injury would extend to uninjured users. Dose-response relationships, long-term safety, and interactions with other drugs are not well characterized in the peer-reviewed literature. Questions about optimal route of administration and treatment duration likewise remain open.

Amycretin/Zenagamtide (development code NN 9487) is a single molecule that operates as a GLP-1 receptor agonist and amylin receptor agonist. It is under development by Novo Nordisk as a weight loss drug; unlike some competitors, it can be delivered orally. A subcutaneous injection formulation is being developed in parallel. The drug's dual mechanism of action, which affects appetite regulation (through the GLP-1 receptor) and metabolism (through the amylin receptor), distinguishes it from existing weight loss medications. It contains two covalently linked peptides that are analogs of GLP-1 and amylin respectively. The oral formulation contains salcaprozate sodium (sodium N-[8-(2-hydroxybenzoyl) amino] caprylate; SNAC) as a permeation enhancer.

Los Zetas originated in 1999, when Gulf Cartel leader Osiel Cárdenas Guillén recruited 37 former elite soldiers from Mexico's special forces to serve as his armed wing. Known as Los Zetas, they operated as the cartel's private army and played a central role in its dominance of the drug trade in the early 2000s. After Cárdenas Guillén's 2007 arrest and extradition, Los Zetas broke away under Heriberto Lazcano, building independent networks in drug, arms, and human trafficking. By 2008, they had allied with the Beltrán Leyva brothers, turning against their former partners, the Gulf Cartel. In 2010, the split became open war, with Los Zetas and the Gulf Cartel fighting for control of routes in northeast Mexico, which resulted in thousands of deaths. In July 2013, the Mexican Navy arrested leader Miguel Treviño Morales. Los Zetas are notorious for targeting civilians, including the mass murder of 72 migrants in the San Fernando massacre. Their activities extended beyond narcotics and have also been connected to human trafficking, oil theft from pipelines, extortion, and digital piracy. Their criminal network is said to reach far from Mexico, including into Central America, the U.S., and Europe. In recent times, Los Zetas have undergone fragmentation and infighting and seen a decline in their influence. By the late 2010s, the group had fragmented into rival factions such as Sangre Nueva Zeta and Zetas Vieja Escuela, some of which allied with the Gulf Cartel against the Cártel del Noreste. Remnants of Los Zetas have also operated under the Cártel del Noreste name.
