semax comes up often in conversation and rarely with the context attached. Here we lay out the basics in order, then work through the practical considerations.
Updated 2026-07-22. Numbers and descriptions here follow the published literature rather than marketing material.
Semax binds to melanocortin receptors and is thought to influence neuronal survival and plasticity rather than to act through the adrenal axis. Laboratory work has shown increased expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and nerve growth factor in treated tissue. Changes in c-Fos, a marker of neuronal activation, have also been reported. Because the peptide is rapidly degraded by peptidases, its effects are generally attributed to downstream signaling cascades rather than to sustained receptor occupancy.
Published studies are dominated by animal models of stroke, ischemia, and cognitive impairment, with a smaller number of human trials conducted in Russia. Many of the human reports are small, single-center, and published in Russian-language journals, which limits independent scrutiny. Outcome measures vary between studies and often rely on clinician-rated scales rather than objective biomarkers. Systematic reviews have noted the methodological weaknesses and called for larger, preregistered trials before firm conclusions can be drawn.
Claims about enhanced focus, memory, or mood in healthy people rest mostly on anecdotal reports and community discussion rather than on controlled data. It remains unclear whether any cognitive benefit observed in patients recovering from brain injury would extend to uninjured users. Dose-response relationships, long-term safety, and interactions with other drugs are not well characterized in the peer-reviewed literature. Questions about optimal route of administration and treatment duration likewise remain open.

==== Green ==== Feces can be green due to having large amounts of unprocessed bile in the digestive tract and strong-smelling diarrhea. This can occasionally be the result from eating liquorice candy, as it is typically made with anise oil rather than liquorice herb and is predominantly sugar. Excessive sugar consumption or a sensitivity to anise oil may cause loose, green stools. It can also result from consuming excessive amounts of blue or green dye.
=== Return to Biotin receptor isolation === Hofmann came full circle to his early work on biotin when he attached this vitamin to insulin. He spent a sabbatical leave in Aachen in Helmut Zahn's laboratory to learn techniques for modifying insulin). Using this information, he was able to chemically attach biotin to one of the three Lys residues of the insulin chains, thus producing an insulin that would bind to columns of avidin-Sepharose. The biotinyl-insulin receptor complex could then be displaced by biotin. With this tool, Hofmann and his coworkers successfully isolated a fully active insulin receptor. His final work was directed toward isolation of the ACTH receptor using the same approach used on the insulin receptor but by this time his health was in decline.
Jerome Gross (February 25, 1917 - January 27, 2014) was an American biologist and member of the National Academy of Sciences. His research at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital in the 1950s helped launch the fields of collagen research. In 1969, Gross was promoted to Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and named Biologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital. In the preceding decades, scientists from around the world traveled to his Developmental Biology Laboratory in the Department of Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital to study his work on collagen structure, wound healing, and limb regeneration. In 1987, Gross became Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. The following year, he became the first Paul Klemperer Award recipient at the New York Academy of Medicine. In 1995 he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by The Wound Healing Society. Gross spent over 60 years on the faculty of Harvard and in the labs of Mass General Hospital. He died one month shy of his 97th birthday in Waban, Massachusetts, of natural causes.
In February 1601, Captain James Lancaster, while commanding the first English East India Company fleet en route to Sumatra, landed on the northern coast of Madagascar specifically to obtain lemons and oranges for his crew to stop scurvy. Captain Lancaster conducted an experiment using four ships under his command. One ship's crew received routine doses of lemon juice while the other three did not receive such treatment. As a result, members of the non-treated ships started to contract scurvy, with many dying as a result. It is possible that Lancaster learnt about the importance of fresh fruit from his previous voyages. Researchers have estimated that during the Age of Exploration (between 1500 and 1800), scurvy killed at least two million sailors. Jonathan Lamb wrote: "In 1499, Vasco da Gama lost 116 of his crew of 170; In 1520, Magellan lost 208 out of 230; ... all mainly to scurvy." A 1609 book by Bartolomé Leonardo de Argensola recorded several different remedies for scurvy known at this time in the Moluccas, including a kind of wine mixed with cloves and ginger, and "certain herbs". The Dutch sailors in the area were said to cure the same disease by drinking lime juice. In 1614, John Woodall, Surgeon General of the East India Company, published The Surgion's Mate as a handbook for apprentice surgeons aboard the company's ships. He repeated the experience of mariners that the cure for scurvy was fresh food or, if not available, oranges, lemons, limes, and tamarinds.

Physical activity, specifically resistance training, stimulates growth of bones by increasing both bone density and strength. Studies have shown a positive correlation between the adaptations of resistance training and bone density. While nutritional and pharmacological approaches may also improve bone health, the strength and balance adaptations from resistance training are a substantial added benefit. Weight-bearing exercise may assist in osteoblast (bone-forming cells) formation and help to increase bone mineral content. High-impact sports, which involve quick changes in direction, jumping, and running, are particularly effective with stimulating bone growth in the youth. Sports such as soccer, basketball, and tennis have shown to have positive effects on bone mineral density as well as bone mineral content in teenagers. Engaging in physical activity during childhood years, particularly in these high-impact osteogenic sports, can help to positively influence bone mineral density in adulthood. Children and adolescents who participate in regular physical activity will place the groundwork for bone health later in life, reducing the risk of bone-related conditions such as osteoporosis.
Radium (88Ra) has no stable or nearly stable isotopes, and thus a standard atomic weight cannot be given. The longest lived, and most common, isotope of radium is 226Ra with a half-life of 1600 years, which is in the decay chain of 238U (the uranium or radium series). Radium now has 34 known isotopes from 201Ra to 234Ra. In the early history of the study of radioactivity, the different natural isotopes of radium were given different names (as were those of other radioactive elements), as it was not until Frederick Soddy's scientific work in the 1900s and 1910s that the concept of isotopes was employed. In this scheme, 223Ra was named actinium X (AcX), 224Ra thorium X (ThX), 226Ra radium (Ra), and 228Ra mesothorium 1 (MsTh1). When it was realized that all of these are isotopes of the same element, many of these names fell out of use, and "radium" came to refer to all isotopes, not just 226Ra, though mesothorium 1 in particular was still used for some time, with a footnote explaining that it referred to 228Ra. The known decay products of radium-226 received historical names including "radium", starting with radium emanation and then ranging from radium A to radium G, with the letter indicating approximately how far they were down the chain from their parent. In 2013 it was discovered that the nucleus of radium-224 is pear-shaped. This was the first discovery of an asymmetrical nucleus.
=== Recurring === Dave Franco as Danny Wegbriet, Yoshi's shifty, stoner, childhood friend, who usually ends up making things worse when Yoshi turns to him for help. He notably wears some sort of new hat in each of his appearances. Michaela Dietz as Hannah Schwooper, Avi and Jen's daughter. Born in 2009, she is technically not Jewish as her mother is not and Avi did not raise her around the culture due to his own disassociation from religion. In middle school Hannah has a good relationship with her father and shares his interests but is isolated from children her own age, though she does find a friend group at the end of "Wolves". She is passionate about photography, and also has a strained relationship with Jen after her and her father divorce. She grows more interested in her Jewish heritage adound this time as well, though fears she is not "Jewish enough" to do so. Gina Rodriguez as Rachel "Baby" Feldstein, Shira's bisexual childhood best friend. The two began secretly hooking up during their senior year of high school, with Shira genuinely having feelings for but Baby acting dodgey about having a conversation about their relationship. In 2002, Shira sneaks out of her mom’s ceremony to prom to make things official but she catches Rachel kissing a boy. During their ensuring argument she discovers Rachel never saw their relationship as anything more than a mindless fling, and a heartbroken Shira angrily ends their relationship, though Rachel callously retorted back they never had anything, further devastating Shira.

=== Home consumption === Hot dogs may be prepared and served in various ways. They can be grilled, steamed, boiled, broiled, pan-fried, or cooked in an air fryer. Some home cooks cut their hot dogs into spirals before grilling or pan frying to increase the surface area, which allows for a better maillard reaction, and also creates pockets to retain filling and lengthens the hot dog, which better fills a commercial bun. Typically it is served in a hot dog bun with various condiments and toppings. The sausage itself may be sliced and added to other dishes such as beanie weinie or filipino spaghetti.
The right heart consists of two chambers, the right atrium and the right ventricle, separated by a valve, the tricuspid valve. The right atrium receives blood almost continuously from the body's two major veins, the superior and inferior venae cavae. A small amount of blood from the coronary circulation also drains into the right atrium via the coronary sinus, which is immediately above and to the middle of the opening of the inferior vena cava. In the wall of the right atrium is an oval-shaped depression known as the fossa ovalis, which is a remnant of an opening in the fetal heart known as the foramen ovale. Most of the internal surface of the right atrium is smooth, the depression of the fossa ovalis is medial, and the anterior surface has prominent ridges of pectinate muscles, which are also present in the right atrial appendage. The right atrium is connected to the right ventricle by the tricuspid valve. The walls of the right ventricle are lined with trabeculae carneae, ridges of cardiac muscle covered by endocardium. In addition to these muscular ridges, a band of cardiac muscle, also covered by endocardium, known as the moderator band reinforces the thin walls of the right ventricle and plays a crucial role in cardiac conduction. It arises from the lower part of the interventricular septum and crosses the interior space of the right ventricle to connect with the inferior papillary muscle. The right ventricle tapers into the pulmonary trunk, into which it ejects blood when contracting.
=== Opisthoglyphous colubrids === Biologists had long known that some snakes had rear fangs, 'inferior' venom injection mechanisms that might immobilize prey; although a few fatalities were on record, until 1957, the possibility that such snakes were deadly to humans seemed at most remote. The deaths of two prominent herpetologists, Robert Mertens and Karl Schmidt, from African colubrid bites, changed that assessment, and recent events reveal that several other species of rear-fanged snakes have venoms that are potentially lethal to large vertebrates. Boomslang (Dispholidus typus) and twig snake (Thelotornis spp.) venoms are toxic to blood cells and thin the blood (hemotoxic, hemorrhagic). Early symptoms include headaches, nausea, diarrhea, lethargy, mental disorientation, bruising, and bleeding at the site and all body openings. Exsanguination is the main cause of death from such a bite. The boomslang's venom is the most potent of all rear-fanged snakes in the world based on LD50. Although its venom may be more potent than some vipers and elapids, it causes fewer fatalities owing to various factors (for example, the fangs' effectiveness is not high compared with many other snakes, the venom dose delivered is low, and boomslangs are generally less aggressive in comparison to other venomous snakes such as cobras and mambas). Symptoms of a bite from these snakes include nausea and internal bleeding, and one could die from a brain hemorrhage and respiratory collapse.
gastrin-34 ("big gastrin") gastrin-17 ("little gastrin") gastrin-14 ("minigastrin") Also, pentagastrin is an artificially synthesized, five amino acid sequence identical to the last five amino acid sequence at the C-terminus end of gastrin. The numbers refer to the amino acid count.

It is associated with the melanocortin receptor family, particularly subtypes found in the central nervous system. This interaction is separate from the adrenal pathway activated by full-length ACTH.
Peptidases degrade the compound within minutes in circulation. This short half-life is one reason nasal delivery is used, placing the substance close to the olfactory and trigeminal pathways.
No large multicenter trials have been published in English-language journals. The existing human evidence consists mainly of smaller studies conducted in Russia, which limits generalization.
一般不建议常温长期保存。多数说明指向 -20 °C 冷冻避光。常温运输通常被视为短期可接受,但会加快降解风险。
